Bengaluru: In a powerful recognition of his exceptional contribution to public health and cardiac care, renowned heart surgeon Dr. Tameem Ahmed has been felicitated by Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dinesh Gundu Rao and Minister for Medical Education Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil. The award was presented to honour his extraordinary service in the field of cardiothoracic surgery, with over 8,000 successful heart surgeries performed across age groups and risk profiles.

A Landmark Surgery on an Elderly Patient

Dr. Ahmed’s expertise was recently on full display when his team carried out a rare, high-risk dual cardiac procedure on an 84-year-old patient, Manoj Majli, who was suffering from multiple life-threatening conditions, including severe coronary artery stenosis and hypothyroidism.

Recognising the complexity of the case and the patient’s fragile condition, the heart team, under Dr. Ahmed’s leadership, conducted a combined aortic valve replacement and coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. The operation was not only successful but also executed with such precision that the patient was able to recover and be discharged within just one week.

“To witness an elderly patient recover so well from a high-risk surgery is not only fulfilling as a doctor but also a reminder of why this profession is sacred,” said Dr. Tameem Ahmed, Senior Adult and Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon and Medical Director at Kardiac Frontida.
