Congress Leaders File Police Complaint Over Assault and Death Threats Outside MLA’s Office

Allegations of Violence and Intimidation Spark Political Tensions in Rajajinagar

Bengaluru, 8 July — A delegation of Congress leaders and workers filed a formal complaint with the Rajajinagar police station on Tuesday, alleging they were assaulted, verbally abused, and threatened with death by supporters of local BJP legislator S. Suresh Kumar. The group said the attack occurred when they visited the MLA’s office a day earlier to seek cooperation in an ongoing investigation against him.

The complaint, submitted by senior party functionaries, accuses unidentified supporters of the BJP MLA of using foul language, physical force, and issuing life-threatening warnings. It also urges the police department to conduct an impartial and thorough probe into the incident and to initiate stringent legal action against all offenders, regardless of political affiliation or external pressure.

“Law is equal for everyone. Violence, threats, and high-handedness cannot be permitted in the name of political differences,” said S. Manohar, KPCC General Secretary and President of the MEI, who was among those present at the police station. “We demand an unbiased investigation and strict punitive measures against the guilty,” he added.

The complaint comes amid heightened political friction in the constituency, with opposition leaders accusing the ruling party of fostering a climate of intimidation. While the specific nature of the investigation involving Suresh Kumar was not detailed in the complaint, Congress functionaries stressed that their visit to the MLA’s office was solely to request cooperation with lawful procedures.

“Law Is Equal for All”: Congress Demands Unbiased Probe After Workers Attacked While Seeking MLA’s Cooperation

A substantial number of local Congress leaders and workers accompanied the delegation to file the complaint. Among those present were Nagaraj, Block Congress President; Manjunath, Youth Congress leader; Anand Kumar, KPCC Deputy Spokesperson; Kushalaharavegowda, Deputy President of Bengaluru West DCC; Prakash, President of Bengaluru Central Campaign Committee; Puttaraju; Naveen, Ward President of Sunnakadakatte; and NSUI leaders Suraj and Hemaraj.

Police officials at Rajajinagar station confirmed receipt of the complaint and stated that preliminary inquiries would be initiated. No formal statement was immediately available from MLA Suresh Kumar or his representatives regarding the allegations.

The incident underscores the increasingly confrontational political climate in Bengaluru’s western suburbs, where rival party workers have frequently clashed over civic and electoral issues. Political observers note that such complaints often lead to counter-allegations, placing the police in a delicate position as they balance legal mandates with political sensitivities.

As the complaint awaits official processing, Congress leaders have indicated they will monitor the investigation closely and may escalate the matter to higher authorities if they perceive any delay or bias. The police have not announced a timeline for their inquiry but assured the complainants of due process.
