BENGALURU: In a significant move that underscores India’s growing importance in the global aerospace and defence sector, Rolls-Royce officially inaugurated its largest Global Capability and Innovation Centre (GCC) in the city on Tuesday. The new state-of-the-art facility, located at the Manyata Embassy Business Park, is poised to become a central nerve centre for the company’s engineering, digital, and business innovation capabilities worldwide.
The inauguration was led by Karnataka’s Minister for Large and Medium Industries, MB Patil, who highlighted the strategic importance of the investment for the state. He was joined by key dignitaries including Lindy Cameron, the British High Commissioner to India, and Helen McCabe, Global CFO of Rolls-Royce.
A Testament to Karnataka’s Aerospace Ecosystem
In his inaugural address, Minister MB Patil stated that the new centre reaffirms Karnataka’s position as the nation’s leading hub for aerospace, defence, and advanced engineering. He emphasised that the talented workforce in Bengaluru would now be integral to powering Rolls-Royce’s global operations.
“Bengaluru ranks among the world’s top three aerospace cities for attracting foreign investments,” Patil said. “Our state hosts companies with strengths across the entire aerospace and defence value chain.”
He elaborated on the state’s robust ecosystem, noting leaders in various segments: “In power systems and propulsion, leaders like Aequs and Collins Aerospace stand out. In structural and mechanical components, Wipro and Mahindra Aerospace are driving progress. In specialised technologies, Boeing, Airbus, and Pixxel are pioneers. And in end-manufacturing, Sarla and Tata Advanced Systems are making significant contributions.”

Government Commitment and Collaborative Growth
The Minister pointed to the Karnataka Aerospace & Defence Policy as a key driver, offering an attractive incentive package designed to lure investors. He stressed that the government’s consistent efforts through forward-looking policies, infrastructure development, and ease-of-doing-business measures have created a fertile ground for growth.
“Here, research institutions, global companies, and home-grown start-ups work together to advance technology and manufacturing. This collaborative ecosystem enables us to deliver world-class solutions to the world,” Patil explained, adding, “Our government is committed to being a trusted partner in building technologies of global relevance.”

Strategic Expansion for Global Operations
While the press event did not include a dedicated quote from Rolls-Royce executives, the establishment of this massive capability centre signals a long-term strategic commitment to India. The Bengaluru GCC is expected to house a large team of highly skilled engineers and digital experts who will work on cutting-edge technologies critical to Rolls-Royce’s global aerospace and defence engine businesses.
The expansion leverages India’s deep pool of technical talent to drive innovation and operational efficiency across the company’s international portfolio. The presence of the British High Commissioner further highlights the strengthening economic and industrial ties between the UK and India, with British companies deepening their roots in the Indian market.
The new centre is anticipated to significantly contribute to the local economy through job creation and by further cementing Bengaluru’s reputation as a global destination for technology and innovation.
