Mangaluru: Senior Congress leaders, including AICC General Secretary and Kerala MP K.C. Venugopal, held a meeting with the family of Ashraf, who was killed in a mob lynching in Kudukpu, Mangaluru. The delegation, acting on Venugopal’s directive, discussed legal and financial assistance for the bereaved family.

The meeting was attended by Legislative Council Chairman U.T. Khader, Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, AICC Secretary B.K. Hariprasad, Chief Minister’s Political Secretary Nasir Ahmed, Congress leaders G.A. Bava, and AKM Ashraf, the MLA from Manjeshwar.

Legal Aid and Compensation Announced

The leaders resolved to appoint a special public prosecutor to ensure a strong legal fight in the case. Additionally, discussions were held regarding compensation for the family under the Mob Lynching Act.

In a humanitarian gesture, Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan personally contributed ₹10 lakh, while U.T. Khader provided ₹5 lakh to support the victim’s family.

The Congress delegation emphasized the need for strict action against the perpetrators. “Mob violence has no place in a civilized society. We stand firmly with Ashraf’s family and will ensure justice is served,” said U.T. Khader.

Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan added, “The government must take stringent measures to prevent such incidents. The compensation is a small step toward helping the family rebuild their lives.”
