India Conducts Precision Strikes on Terror Hubs in Pakistan and PoK in Retaliation for Pahalgam Attack

New Delhi, May 7 — In a decisive response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians, mostly tourists, the Indian military launched targeted strikes on terrorist hideouts across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the early hours of Tuesday.

Codenamed Operation Sindoor, the operation hit nine key terror hubs used by militants to orchestrate attacks against India. The government emphasized that the strikes were “surgical, proportionate, and aimed solely at dismantling terror infrastructure,” stressing that no Pakistani military installations were targeted.

Pakistan’s military spokesperson, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary, confirmed strikes in Muzaffarabad and Kotli (PoK), as well as Bahawalpur and Muridke in Punjab—areas linked to terror groups Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Shortly after the operation, the Indian Army declared on X: “Justice has been delivered. Jai Hind.”

Pakistan retaliated with artillery fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch-Rajauri’s Bhimber Gali sector, prompting a measured response from Indian forces.

The Pahalgam attack, one of Kashmir’s deadliest in years, saw militants target Hindu tourists at Baisaran meadow. Indian authorities identified two Pakistani nationals among the assailants, though Islamabad denies involvement.

Tensions continue to escalate, with cross-border skirmishes intensifying and both nations suspending key diplomatic and logistical agreements, including a crucial water-sharing pact. Meanwhile, India has initiated its largest civil defence drill since the 1971 war, spanning 244 districts nationwide.
