Free Skill Training Initiative Seeks to Turn Education into Employability and Entrepreneurship
Bengaluru: The CMA Skill Development Centre at CMA PU College, Kavalbyrasandra, is helping young people and women acquire practical skills that can translate into employment, entrepreneurship and financial independence.
UAE-Based Healthcare Professionals Visit Skill Development Centre
The centre recently hosted a UAE-based family of healthcare professionals comprising Dr Muzammil Hafeez, Neonatologist and Professor; Dr Shabana Muzammil, Diabetologist and Business Administrator; Dr Faatimah Irfaanah Muzammil, Pediatrician and social advocate; Dr Faatimah Maryam Muzammil, youth mentor and social awareness advocate; and Hurairah Faatimah Muzammil, student counsellor and youth guide.

During their visit, the guests reviewed the training facilities and interacted with those associated with the initiative.
“Education must prepare young people not only to earn qualifications but also to face life with confidence and become economically secure. Practical skills can give them that strength,” said Dr Muzammil Hafeez.
From Computer Skills to Entrepreneurship: Training Designed Around Livelihoods

IT programmes range from basic computer literacy and Tally to Python and cybersecurity. Students who have completed Class 10 can also pursue Nursery Teachers Training (NTT) and Montessori Teachers Training (MTT), opening employment pathways in pre-primary and corporate schools.
Skill development expert Parvez Ahmed said the centre offers free vocational training, particularly aimed at lower and middle-income families. Courses generally run for two to six months and cover IT, apparel, beauty and wellness, education, and industry-oriented vocational skills.
“The purpose is to equip people with skills that can immediately create earning opportunities. Depending on the course and proficiency, trained candidates can potentially earn between ₹10,000 and ₹25,000 a month through jobs or self-employment,” Ahmed said.
Fashion, Beauty and Digital Marketing Create New Opportunities for Women
The apparel section offers fashion designing, tailoring, neck and blouse designing, and computerized embroidery. Trainees are also introduced to marketing through Instagram, Facebook and retail channels.
Beauty and wellness courses prepare makeup artists, nail technicians and beauticians for independent work or employment with established salons such as VLCC, with potential monthly earnings of around ₹20,000 to ₹25,000.

Industry-based vocational courses lasting two to three months prepare candidates for jobs such as office executives and positions in tourism and hospitality, followed by placement assistance.

“Parents should encourage their daughters and sons to learn a practical skill alongside formal education. A skill gives a person confidence, dignity and the ability to stand on their own feet,” said Dr Shabana Muzammil.
Dr M.S. Rahman, Education Committee Chairman, CMA of Karnataka, said skill-based education could strengthen families while reducing dependence on limited conventional employment opportunities.
“When young people learn how to earn through their own abilities, the benefit reaches the entire family and, eventually, the community,” Rahman said.
Government-Recognised Certification, Wider Community Outreach on the Agenda
The centre is also working to integrate government-sponsored programmes into its curriculum to provide recognised certifications and subsidised training. The proposed expansion is intended to benefit people from surrounding localities, including KGLD and DJLD, while addressing unemployment through accessible vocational education.
