Milli Council Demands Greater Muslim Representation in Cabinet and Government Bodies
Delegation raises reservation, representation and contentious law reforms with KPCC president
Bengaluru: A delegation of the All India Milli Council (AIMC) met Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president B.K. Hariprasad and urged the ruling party to fulfil the commitments it made to minorities, particularly Muslims, in its election manifesto.
The delegation submitted a detailed Charter of Demands, expressing concern that several assurances remained unimplemented even two-and-a-half years after the Congress formed the government. It called for decisive action during the remainder of the government’s tenure.
“We reminded the party leadership that electoral promises create hope and trust among communities. The government must now translate those assurances into meaningful action,” said Sulaiman Khan, Assistant National General Secretary of AIMC.

Reservation and Controversial Laws Discussed
The delegation sought early resolution of the legal proceedings concerning the four per cent reservation for Muslims. It also demanded suitable amendments to the cattle slaughter and anti-conversion laws introduced by the previous government, alleging that some provisions were being misused to intimidate vulnerable communities and disturb social harmony.
According to the delegation, Hariprasad received its members warmly, accepted the memorandum and assured them that the concerns would be taken up with the government. He reportedly indicated that amendments to the two laws would be examined and efforts made to expedite the reservation case.
“Laws should protect citizens and promote harmony, not become instruments of fear or selective harassment. Any misuse must be firmly condemned and prevented,” said Mohammed Fiaz Sharief of Milli Council Karnataka.
Demand for Fair Muslim Representation
The AIMC also sought proportionate representation for Muslims in government boards, corporations, public institutions and the Cabinet. It maintained that the community had not received adequate opportunities in key decision-making bodies despite extending strong electoral support to the Congress.
“Muslims and other minorities are not asking for favours. They are seeking their constitutional rights, fair participation and a dignified place in governance,” Sulaiman Khan said.
Sharief expressed hope that the meeting would lead to concrete results. “Inclusive representation strengthens democracy and builds confidence among communities. The party must demonstrate its commitment through timely appointments, policy reforms and visible action,” he said.
The delegation urged both the Congress organisation and the state government to consider the demands seriously and implement them without further delay.
