At Vision India Summit, Akhilesh Yadav Backs Startup-Led Growth and Cautions the Nation on Divisive Politics

Vision India Summit Charts Path for Inclusive Growth and Startup-Led Development

Bengaluru, 16 November, 2025*** – The inaugural Vision India Summit concluded here on Sunday, framing India’s challenges as its greatest startup opportunities while issuing a call for social unity and balanced economic growth. The event, themed *Plan, Develop and Ascent*, convened entrepreneurs, academics, and policy voices for a wide-ranging dialogue on the nation’s development trajectory.

Turning Challenges into Startup Solutions

A central theme of the summit was the potent role of startups in addressing India’s complex issues. Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, who conceptualized the summit, articulated a vision where entrepreneurship and social good converge.

“Every solution is a startup,” Yadav stated. “India has a large population and many problems. Each challenge can be turned into a new idea that improves people’s lives.” He emphasized that issues in governance, administration, and resource access demand swift, intelligent solutions that the startup ecosystem is uniquely positioned to provide.

He further stressed that the purpose of technology must be to improve life and humanity, urging founders to look beyond financial metrics. “Startups are not just for profit,” he said. “They must also work for public good and contribute to an inclusive society.”

Building a Resilient Entrepreneurial Ecosystem

A preceding expert panel delved into the foundational elements required to nurture a thriving startup environment, highlighting the importance of culture, preparation, and scale.

Prof. Rekha Jain of IIM Ahmedabad underscored the critical role of educational institutions. “Institutions give you a culture of openness where you are allowed to fail, learn and grow,” she remarked, pointing to the need for a supportive environment for innovation.

The discussion also clarified that capital alone is not a guarantee for success. Dr. Ravishankar Gundlapalli, Founder of MentorCloud, noted, “It is not the funding but the fundability that lifts a business.”

Panelists identified India’s vast domestic market as a key advantage. “India is one of the fastest-growing ecosystems. Scale and population are major strengths,” said Joydeep Dutta Roy, Executive Director of Indian Overseas Bank. Kunal Upadhyay, Co-Founder of IIMA Ventures, added that for ideas to succeed, they must be “rooted in context and supported by deep market research.”

“Our focus is on progress, positivity and bringing everyone together.”

A Caution Against Division and a Focus on Unity

The summit broadened from pure economics to address the nation’s social fabric. Akhilesh Yadav invoked the philosophy of Vasudev Kutumbakam, asserting that India’s identity is built on mutual respect and affection. He cautioned against growing societal divisions and positioned his political approach as an alternative to divisive trends.

In a pointed critique, he addressed the controversial use of bulldozers in some states. “A bulldozer has no mind of its own. It moves according to the key and steering. The question is whose hands are on them,” he said, adding that courts have repeatedly criticized such actions as unconstitutional.

Reflecting on recent political developments, Yadav commented on the Bihar election results, noting the visible popularity of Tejashwi Yadav and the Mahagathbandhan’s positive agenda focused on jobs and development. He suggested that political alliances across India are naturally shaped by the strength of regional parties.

A Collective Roadmap for the Future

In his concluding remarks, Yadav framed the Vision India initiative as a collective, forward-looking endeavor. He contrasted it with what he termed “divisive visions” elsewhere, stating, “Our focus is on progress, positivity and bringing everyone together.”

The summit, coordinated by MP Dr. Rajeev Rai and anchored by IIM Professor Abhishek Mishra, was described by participants as a meaningful platform connecting ideas, experiences, and practical solutions to forge a more inclusive path for India’s future.
