From Forests to Classrooms: Aarohan Brings Hope to Bandipur’s Forgotten Children

‘Support Bandipur’

Aarohan Partners with Bandipur National Park to Educate Tribal and Forest Guards’ Children

A movement to blend conservation with education, bringing hope to forgotten communities in Karnataka’s wilderness

Bandipur (Karnataka): Amidst the lush greenery of Bandipur National Park—one of India’s most celebrated wildlife sanctuaries—lies a lesser-known struggle. While the forest thrives with elephants, tigers, and deer, the children of forest guards and tribal communities often grow up battling neglect, with limited access to schools, clean water, and basic infrastructure.

In a bid to address this challenge, Bengaluru-based social initiative Aarohan has partnered with Bandipur National Park to support the education and well-being of these children. The collaboration aims to provide not just learning materials but also long-term support for facilities like clean water, sanitation, and school infrastructure.

A Promise Beyond the Forest

“The schools here are under extreme pressure,” said Naba Saha, an explorer and the force behind the initiative. “Children travel long distances on foot, the classrooms lack proper sanitation, and even drinking water is unsafe. It was clear to us that these young minds needed urgent support.”

Saha, who has been associated with Aarohan’s community service activities for years, played a key role in signing the MoU with Bandipur authorities. His vision is clear: extend Aarohan’s urban outreach to the forgotten communities of rural Karnataka.

Aarohan’s Journey of Service

Founded in Bengaluru, Aarohan has a history of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) work, including providing stationery, uniforms, laptops to high-performing students, and water purifiers to government schools. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization distributed free meals for two months with the help of donations and fundraising.

“Our principle is simple,” explained an Aarohan representative. “When you uplift a child, you uplift an entire community. Bandipur was the natural next step for us—because those who protect our forests deserve our support too.”

Payel Sengupta’s Quote on Aarohan’s Initiative

“Aarohan has taken up a remarkable initiative towards shaping a brighter tomorrow. By nurturing potential and inspiring confidence, he is empowering individuals to rise higher and make a lasting impact on society.”

First Visit: A Reality Check

During a recent visit to the Government Lower Primary School in Kanyana Pura Colony, Saha and his team distributed small gifts and interacted with students and teachers. What they discovered, however, was sobering.

The school had just two staff members for classes from first to fifth standard. Children drank directly from borewell tap water, which was not always safe. Only one toilet was functional, forcing many students to go outdoors. Teachers highlighted urgent requirements including a water purifier, proper urinals, painting of classrooms, and improved sanitation facilities.

“We don’t even have clean water for the children,” said a teacher. “Aarohan’s support gives us hope that these problems will finally be addressed.”

Aarohan Thanks SSA Compliance and Legum Leaders for Supporting Bandipur CSR Initiatives

“Aarohan extends its heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Swati Jha and Dr. Amitava Ghosh of SSA Compliance and Legum for their generous support towards our CSR initiatives at Bandipur National Park. Their commitment has strengthened our mission to uplift tribal children and families of forest guards through education, clean water, and community development. Such partnerships inspire us to continue bridging the gap between conservation and compassion.” – Aarohan
