Bhopal – In a historic moment for India, Bhopal has been chosen as the host city for the 21st World Rose Convention in 2028, marking the first time the prestigious event will be held in the country. The announcement was made at the closing ceremony of the 20th World Rose Convention in Fukuyama, Japan, where the World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS) formally handed over the hosting rights to Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board (MPTB).

The event is expected to attract over 700 international delegates, showcasing India’s horticultural excellence and cultural heritage on a global stage.

A Moment of Pride for India

The Indian delegation, led by Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary of Tourism, Culture, and Religious Trusts & Endowments, and Managing Director of MPTB, received the official WFRS flag at the ceremony, symbolizing the transition of hosting responsibilities.

Adding to India’s milestone, Sushil Prakash was elected as the new President of the World Federation of Rose Societies, becoming the first Indian to hold this prestigious position. His appointment underscores India’s growing influence in global horticulture and floriculture.

Bhopal: The Perfect Floral Destination

Known for its picturesque lakes and lush gardens, Bhopal will provide an ideal backdrop for the convention. The event will feature:

  • Technical sessions on rose cultivation and innovations

  • Cultural performances highlighting Madhya Pradesh’s heritage

The Indian delegation in Japan also included Vivek Jude, Deputy Director (Events and Marketing) of MPTB, Mahendra Pratap Singh of Travel India Tours, and 14 members of the Madhya Pradesh Rose Society. Ramkumar, Consul General of India in Fukuoka, was also present, reinforcing India’s diplomatic and cultural engagement.

The 20th World Rose Convention in Japan saw participation from over 500 delegates from Australia, Japan, Finland, the UK, South Korea, and other nations. Madhya Pradesh’s presentations on its cultural heritage, biodiversity, and tourism potential left a lasting impression, setting the stage for a grand showcase in 2028.
