Youth Congress Launches Bengaluru Satyagraha, Demands Withdrawal of FIRs Against NEET Protesters and Action Over Alleged Police Excesses
KPYCC leaders condemn alleged police action against students, call for accountability and transparency in examination system
Bengaluru, 3 August 2026: The Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (KPYCC) on Monday staged a one-day Satyagraha at Freedom Park in Bengaluru, demanding the immediate withdrawal of FIRs registered against students who were allegedly booked during protests against irregularities in the NEET examination process in Delhi.
The protest was led by KPYCC State President H.S. Manjunath, with several party leaders and office-bearers participating in the demonstration. The protesters alleged that students raising concerns over examination transparency had faced excessive action instead of receiving a fair hearing from the authorities.
Addressing the gathering, KPYCC State Vice President Chaithra criticised the alleged use of force against protesting students and said that raising concerns about their future and the integrity of the examination system was a constitutional right.
“Students have raised their voice for their future and for transparency in the examination system, which is their constitutional right. Instead of addressing their genuine concerns, attempting to suppress their protest through a lathi charge is a disturbing development. This will remain a black mark in the history of the country,” she said.
Calls for Probe into Alleged Police Action in Bihar
Referring to an incident in Siwan, Bihar, during protests linked to NEET irregularities, Chaithra alleged that excessive force was used against students.
“The alleged use of deadly weapons such as AK-47 rifles against students protesting examination irregularities is extremely inhuman and amounts to further hurting those already affected,” she said.
Questioning the role of the Union Home Ministry, she added, “If the Union Home Minister was aware of such incidents beforehand, then responsibility must be fixed for allowing such action. If he was unaware, then it raises questions about his ability to continue in that position.” She also demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Opposition to Use of Surveillance Technology
KPYCC State Vice President Divya raised concerns over the reported use of artificial intelligence-based cameras and facial recognition technology to identify protesters in Delhi.
“Using advanced technology to track and intimidate those exercising their democratic right to protest creates an atmosphere of fear. Such technology should instead be used to ensure transparent examinations, strengthen governance, and ensure that government schemes reach every citizen,” she said.
Divya further urged the government to withdraw cases filed against students and focus on addressing their grievances.
“The youth of the country should not be made to live in fear. The government’s responsibility is to ensure justice for students rather than suppressing their voices. Instead of making statements of support for young people only for publicity, authorities should take concrete steps and withdraw all cases registered against protesters,” she said.
The Satyagraha was attended by district presidents and other office-bearers of the Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee.
