AIMC Extends Support to D.K. Shivakumar, Calls for Fulfilment of Minority-Focused Commitments

Bengaluru, 2 June: The All India Milli Council (AIMC) has congratulated D.K. Shivakumar on assuming office as the Chief Minister of Karnataka and expressed optimism that his leadership will usher in a new phase of inclusive growth, social justice and communal harmony in the state.

In a statement issued from its central office, AIMC National Assistant General Secretary Sulaiman Khan said Shivakumar’s rise to the state’s top post has generated fresh hope among various sections of society. He described the new Chief Minister as a leader with strong administrative experience, grassroots connect and the ability to steer Karnataka towards greater economic progress and social development.

The Council said it expects the new government to uphold Karnataka’s long-standing tradition of communal harmony while promoting equitable development across communities.

Minority Support Must Reflect in Governance

While extending its best wishes to the new administration, the organisation reminded the government of the significant electoral support extended by minority communities to the Congress party and called for urgent attention to long-pending concerns affecting their socio-economic advancement.

“The implementation of the unfulfilled promises made in the election manifesto is urgently needed,” Khan said. “The welfare schemes and financial assistance announced during and after the elections, particularly those concerning minority communities, should be implemented with sincerity, speed and effective monitoring.”

The Council urged the government to substantially increase allocations to the Minority Directorate and the Karnataka Minority Development Corporation (KMDC), stating that enhanced funding is essential for improving educational opportunities, modern infrastructure and socio-economic empowerment programmes.

Focus on Education, Waqf Protection and Security

The AIMC also called for comprehensive measures to protect and modernise waqf properties, prevent encroachments and strengthen the administrative functioning of institutions managing religious and cultural trusts.

Emphasising the importance of peace and stability, the organisation urged the government to ensure strict enforcement of law and order and take firm action against divisive elements. It said a secure environment is necessary for traders, professionals, entrepreneurs and students to contribute effectively to Karnataka’s growth.

“True progress is built on the pillars of mutual trust,” Khan said. “Ensuring socio-economic welfare, educational advancement, adequate political representation and protection of minority rights can make this administration a historic success.”

Demand for Adequate Political Representation

The Council also sought greater representation for minorities in decision-making institutions, including the Rajya Sabha, Legislative Council, State Cabinet, statutory boards, advisory committees and government corporations.

Pointing out that elections to four Rajya Sabha seats and seven Legislative Council seats are scheduled this month, the organisation demanded that at least one Rajya Sabha seat and two Legislative Council seats be allotted to Muslim candidates.

The AIMC reaffirmed its willingness to work closely with the state government in building an inclusive, prosperous and secure Karnataka. The organisation said it remains committed to promoting constitutional rights, educational advancement, socio-economic development, national unity and democratic participation among minority communities across the country.
