From Self-Doubt to Self-Belief
Nominated for the Abhaya Dasabhuja Award 2026, Harika S.’s journey is an inspiring story of resilience, reinvention and the courage to pursue a dream despite circumstances and doubts.
After graduation, Harika began her professional career, but later stepped away from her job to devote herself to raising her children. The transition was challenging, particularly when discouraging voices around her made her feel that she could not pursue a career or build something of her own. Instead of allowing those words to define her, Harika turned an unexpected disappointment into an opportunity.
From a Birthday Cake to a New Beginning
When she could not make her daughter’s first birthday cake herself, the experience stayed with her. She subsequently enrolled in an online baking course and began taking baking seriously when her younger child turned two. The appreciation she received for her cakes gave her a renewed sense of confidence and sparked the beginning of VVISH Cakes & Foods.
What started as a personal experiment gradually evolved into a growing venture offering cakes and other food products, while expanding into stalls, catering orders and small events. For Harika, every cake carries an emotional connection because she approaches each order with the same care she would give her own children.
Quality, Community and the Power of Women Supporting Women
Quality remains non-negotiable for Harika. She believes whatever she serves should be good enough for her own family, and refuses to compromise on that principle.
Her journey has also been strengthened by the encouragement of women who trusted her, supported her work, placed orders, promoted her venture and stood beside her when she was still learning. Their solidarity reinforced her belief in the power of women uplifting one another.
A “Happiest Failure” Who Chose to Try
Harika proudly describes herself as a “Happiest Failure”, because the setbacks others saw became the stepping stones that helped her discover an ability she did not know she possessed.
Her story is ultimately not just about a bakery. It is about a woman who was told she could not, yet chose to try, persevere and create. Her journey is a powerful reminder that what appears to be failure can sometimes become the beginning of something beautiful.
