Bangalore University Makes History with First-of-Its-Kind Agentic AI Saksham Workshop

In a landmark initiative, the public university partners with the Ministry of Education and Karnataka’s higher education department to equip students with cutting-edge artificial intelligence skills.

BANGALORE – In a significant stride toward democratising artificial intelligence education, Bangalore University has successfully hosted the country’s first-ever Agentic AI Saksham Workshop at a public university. The event, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and the Department of Higher Education, Government of Karnataka, marks a pivotal moment in integrating advanced AI training within the state university system.

The workshop, designed to move beyond theoretical knowledge, aims to provide students with practical, hands-on experience in emerging AI technologies, signalling a future-oriented shift in higher education pedagogy.

Emphasis on Empowerment, Not Fear

Addressing the inaugural session as Chief Guest, Ms. Khushboo G. Choudhary, Principal Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, Government of Karnataka, underscored the transformative role of artificial intelligence. She described AI not merely as a tool but as a powerful technology capable of augmenting human skill development and unlocking new avenues for students.

“Students and teachers must understand and adopt emerging technologies in this rapidly changing world,” Ms. Choudhary stated, encouraging attendees to use AI responsibly and effectively for learning, research, and innovation. She noted that continuous learning and adaptation would help build confidence and prepare students to face future challenges.

Applauding the initiative, she described the workshop as a first-of-its-kind effort with a future-oriented approach, providing practical exposure and innovative learning opportunities. She expressed confidence that the programme would soon be expanded to other parts of the state and country.

A Call for Innovation Over Mere Usage

Mr. Armstrong Pame, Joint Secretary (RUSA) at the Ministry of Education, Government of India, advised students to transcend basic AI applications. He encouraged them to leverage AI tools for research, exploration, and knowledge creation rather than limiting themselves to simple browsing. He emphasised that effective use of AI by both students and teachers could lead to meaningful innovations in the future.

Students as Job Creators

Dr. Jayakara S. M., Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, framed the workshop within the broader context of national development, stating that students and youth represent the true strength of the nation. He urged students to shift their mindset from seeking jobs to becoming job creators.

“Artificial Intelligence is creating new opportunities, and students must equip themselves with relevant skills to shape their own future,” Dr. Jayakara said. He expressed pride in Bangalore University being the first public university in the country to host such a forward-looking programme.

The event was attended by Registrar K.T. Shanthala, Programme Coordinator Dr. Muralidhara B.L., Executive Director of the Karnataka State Higher Education Council Dr. K.G. Chandrashekar, Section Officer Dr. Amit Singh from the Ministry of Education, Capable Co-founder Umang Surana, and PM-USHA Senior Consultant Ananya Pattnaik, among others.

Practical Training at the Core

The Agentic AI Saksham Workshop stands out for its intensive, skills-based curriculum. Designed as a first-of-its-kind initiative at the government university level, it provides specialised training in prompt engineering, website development, and system development.

Participants are receiving hands-on experience with a range of advanced AI tools, including NotebookLM, Canvas, Lovable, Google Studio, n8n, and Gamma. The practical approach is intended to ensure students gain immediately applicable skills in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence.

Given the success of this inaugural programme, organisers have indicated that the workshop model is expected to be expanded to other regions, setting a new benchmark for AI education in public universities across the country.
