As the Executive Director of CBM India Trust, Sony Thomas brings over three decades of diverse professional experience that bridges the rigor of corporate leadership with the compassion and mission-driven focus of the development sector.

Sony’s journey is one of remarkable transitions and bold choices. Having carved a successful career in India’s corporate arena, he made the conscious decision to channel his expertise into driving systemic change for the underserved—particularly for persons with disabilities and marginalized communities across India. His leadership is rooted in purpose, strategy, and an unwavering commitment to inclusion, equity, and human dignity.

Before joining CBM India Trust, Sony served as Group Director for Resource Mobilization and Public Engagement at World Vision India from 2014 to 2023. His earlier career in the corporate world reads like a portfolio of leadership excellence. At Nokia Mobile Phones (under HCL Infosystems), he served nearly 14 years as Vice President – Business Head for India, playing a key role in shaping one of the most recognized consumer brands in the country. He also held significant leadership positions with Timex Watches, ITC’s Sundrop edible oil, and Singer India Ltd., bringing a results-oriented mindset and innovation-driven approach that continues to inform his work in the development sector.

Championing Inclusion at CBM India Trust

At CBM India Trust, the mission touched more than 32.9 lakhs in 2023–2024. Under his stewardship, CBM India continues to build a society where persons with disabilities can realize their full potential, free from stigma and systemic exclusion.

“Inclusion is not an add-on—it is the foundation of sustainable development,” Sony emphasizes. “Our work is about equity, access, and participation for all.”

A Legacy of Purpose-Driven Leadership

Sony holds an MBA from Symbiosis University, a Management Development Certification from IIM Ahmedabad, and a B.Com from Madras University. But beyond his qualifications, it is his vision for inclusive growth and people-centered progress that defines him.

Whether in the boardrooms of multinational corporations or the field offices of remote villages, Sony Thomas has consistently advocated for voices that are often unheard. He is not just a leader but a mentor, a catalyst, and a powerful voice for change—especially for India’s youth, who look to him as an example of how leadership can be both ambitious and humane.

As he continues to champion disability rights, inclusive policy, and social equity, Sony’s legacy is being written not in accolades, but in the transformed lives and empowered communities across India.
