Pre-Monsoon Showers Drench Bengaluru, Bring Relief and Warnings

Bengaluru welcomed a spell of pre-monsoon rain on Monday, offering respite from the recent heatwave but also prompting caution due to gusty winds and thunderstorms. The downpour, which covered areas like Whitefield, Jayanagar, and Yeshwanthpur, followed an India Meteorological Department (IMD) nowcast alert predicting light to moderate rainfall.

“The current weather aligns with typical pre-monsoon activity, with winds reaching 30-40 km/h and isolated thunderstorms,” an IMD official said. After days of temperatures soaring above 35°C, the showers provided relief but also raised concerns over traffic disruptions, power outages, and falling tree branches.

Authorities advised residents to avoid standing under trees and secure loose objects during strong winds. The IMD’s 7-day forecast suggests continued cloudy skies and scattered showers, with similar conditions expected in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and other districts. As Bengaluru gears up for monsoon season, civic agencies are ramping up preparedness for weather-related challenges.
