Youth Congress Marks Modi’s Birthday as ‘World Unemployment Day’, Targets Centre Over Jobs

Bengaluru, Sept. 17: Karnataka Youth Congress on Thursday marked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday as “World Unemployment Day”, accusing the Centre of failing to fulfil its employment promises and leaving millions of young Indians struggling for opportunities.
Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee President H.S. Manjunath Gowda said Modi had come to power promising two crore jobs annually, but claimed the government’s employment record had left young people disappointed.

‘Where Are the Jobs?’
“Young people prepare for years for employment, only to suffer because of examination irregularities, question paper leaks and recruitment delays,” Gowda said. “How can a government that cannot provide employment to its youth build the country’s future?”
In a sharp political attack, he added that the “next generation will remember Modi as the ‘Father of Unemployment’,” blaming the Prime Minister’s policies for what he described as a deepening employment crisis.
Gowda cited NITI Aayog’s August 2026 report Reimagining Skilling for Viksit Bharat@2047, which estimates that about 8.7 crore people aged 15-29 are not in education, employment or training (NEET). The report itself stresses the need for stronger skilling, job-linked learning and pathways into employment.
He also referred to recent RTI data showing that more than 8.23 lakh sanctioned civilian posts across 80 Union ministries and departments were vacant as of March 1, 2024.
Satirical Protest at KPCC Office
At the KPCC office, Youth Congress workers distributed “Melody” chocolates and displayed satirical posters targeting Modi. According to the press release, KPCC leader B.K. Hariprasad released posters and banners during the programme.
Hundreds of participants carried placards asking “Where are the jobs?” and raised slogans referring to “pakodas” and describing Modi as the “Father of Unemployment”.
“The anger among young job-seekers cannot be ignored,” Gowda said, demanding greater accountability over vacancies and recruitment.
KPYC State Vice-President Divya, district presidents Ranjith, Rahul and Praveen, along with state office-bearers, volunteers and Youth Congress workers, attended the programme.
