NEET Irregularities: Youth Congress Takes Protest to the Streets Through Rap

BENGALURU, Sept. 4: Raising concerns over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination, failures in the testing system and what it described as the Centre’s neglect of education-related issues, the Indian Youth Congress organised a NEET Anti-Rap Song Competition and Street Assembly at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on Friday.

‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ gives students a musical platform

Held as part of the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ campaign, the event drew thousands of students and young people, who used rap music to voice their concerns over alleged irregularities in NEET, confusion in the examination system and limited opportunities in medical education.

Unlike conventional protests, the programme used rap, a form of music popular among young people, as a medium of expression. The lyrics performed during the competition went beyond entertainment, highlighting concerns over transparency in examinations, equal opportunities, students’ future and accountability in the education system.

Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress president H.S. Manjunath said NEET is a crucial gateway for millions of students aspiring to become doctors and that every stage of the examination must be transparent and trustworthy.

“Students’ futures should not become victims of any malpractice, confusion or failure in the system. Asking questions, seeking answers and raising one’s voice for a fair system is the right of every citizen, including students,” he said.

Manjunath said the Youth Congress would continue organising public awareness programmes to press the Centre to improve transparency in the conduct of NEET and other competitive examinations, prioritise students’ interests and restore confidence in the examination system.

“Having understood the pulse of the country’s youth, the Youth Congress is continuing this fight in the language of young people themselves,” he said.

Prizes were presented to competition winners M.C. James, Rancho and Shagufta 2.0. Indian Youth Congress secretary Nagesh Kariyappa and other Youth Congress office-bearers were also present.
