Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Inaugurates ₹447.73 Crore Energy Projects in Mysuru

Major Infrastructure Boost: Underground Cabling and New Substations to Enhance Power Supply

Mysuru, July 19, 2025 – In a significant push to modernize Karnataka’s power infrastructure, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah laid the foundation for six energy projects worth ₹447.73 crore in Mysuru district on Saturday. The projects, spearheaded by the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC) and the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL), aim to improve electricity reliability, reduce outages, and upgrade transmission networks.

The inauguration took place during the state government’s two-year achievement event at Maharaja’s College Grounds, attended by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Energy Minister K.J. George.

Underground Cabling to Revolutionize Mysuru’s Power Distribution

A major highlight of the initiative is CESC’s ₹408.95 crore project to replace overhead power lines with underground cables and aerial bunch conductors across four key assembly constituencies in Mysuru city. The move is expected to minimize disruptions caused by weather, reduce technical losses, and enhance safety.

The breakdown of the project includes:

  • Krishnaraja constituency: ₹118.97 crore

  • Chamaraja constituency: ₹125.51 crore

  • Narasimharaja constituency: ₹103.74 crore

  • Chamundeshwari constituency: ₹60.73 crore

“This underground cabling initiative will ensure uninterrupted power supply, reduce accidents, and improve the city’s aesthetics,” said Energy Minister K.J. George. “It reflects our commitment to building a modern and resilient electricity infrastructure.”

KPTCL’s ₹38.78 Crore Substations to Strengthen Hunsur’s Grid

Alongside CESC’s urban upgrades, two new KPTCL substations were announced for Hunsur taluk, with a combined budget of ₹38.78 crore. These include:

  • 66/11 kV, 2×20 MVA substation at Manuganahalli (₹20.41 crore)

  • 66/11 kV, 2×20 MVA substation at Kattemalalavadi (₹18.32 crore)

The new substations are expected to enhance power transmission efficiency and cater to the growing electricity demand in the region.

“These projects will ensure better voltage stability and reduce load on existing infrastructure,” said a KPTCL official. “Farmers, industries, and households in Hunsur will benefit from a more reliable power supply.”

Government’s Vision for a Robust Energy Sector

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized that the projects align with the state’s broader goal of strengthening Karnataka’s energy infrastructure. “Our government is committed to ensuring quality power supply for all citizens. These investments in Mysuru district are a step toward reducing outages and supporting economic growth,” he stated.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar added, “Reliable electricity is the backbone of development. These initiatives will not only improve daily life but also attract industries, creating more job opportunities.”

What’s Next?

With the foundation stones laid, the projects are expected to be completed in a phased manner over the next two to three years. The government has assured strict monitoring to ensure timely execution and quality compliance.

The upgrades mark a crucial step in Karnataka’s mission to build a future-ready power network, addressing both urban and rural energy needs.
