“Basava Sanskriti Abhiyan” Launched for Inclusivity and Social Harmony

Bengaluru, July 13, 2025 – A significant initiative, “Basava Sanskriti Abhiyan” (Basava Culture Campaign), has been launched with the goal of fostering social harmony and inclusivity, particularly among Lingayat seers and community leaders. The campaign, which seeks to propagate the ideals of Basavanna, was formally inaugurated at the residence of Minister M.B. Patil, highlighting the government’s support for the movement.

The launch event saw the participation of numerous Lingayat seers and prominent figures, emphasizing the broad base of support for the initiative. The campaign aims to promote the teachings and philosophy of Basavanna, a 12th-century philosopher, social reformer, and poet, who advocated for a casteless society and challenged orthodox religious practices.

Key Objectives and Vision

The “Basava Sanskriti Abhiyan” is primarily focused on achieving several key objectives:

  • Promoting Basavanna’s Teachings: The campaign will actively disseminate the principles of Basavanna, including his emphasis on equality, rationality, and social justice, to a wider audience.
  • Encouraging Dialogue: It aims to foster constructive dialogue and discussions among students and various communities to understand and embrace Basavanna’s progressive ideas.
  • Strengthening Social Fabric: By advocating for harmony and challenging discrimination, the initiative seeks to strengthen the social fabric and promote peaceful coexistence.

Minister M.B. Patil, speaking at the inauguration, stated, “The state government is committed to supporting the ‘Basava Sanskriti Abhiyan’ to further propagate Basavanna’s noble thoughts.” He underscored the importance of Basavanna’s principles in today’s society, particularly in fostering a more equitable and harmonious environment.

Several seers also expressed their support for the campaign. One prominent seer emphasized, “Basavanna’s philosophy of universal brotherhood and equality is more relevant than ever. This campaign is a crucial step towards realizing his vision.” Another seer added, “We must educate the younger generation about Basavanna’s revolutionary ideas to build a truly inclusive society.”

The “Basava Sanskriti Abhiyan” plans to undertake a series of activities across the state. These include:

  • Community Outreach: Holding public meetings and awareness campaigns in various districts, including Mysuru, Davangere, and Chitradurga, to engage with local communities and promote the campaign’s message.
  • Cultural Events: Incorporating cultural performances and artistic expressions that reflect Basavanna’s ideals and the rich heritage of the Lingayat tradition.

The campaign has set an ambitious target of reaching 100 villages initially, with plans for expansion to cover a wider geographical area. The organizers believe that by actively engaging with communities at the grassroots level, they can effectively spread Basavanna’s message of social reform and inclusivity.
