Alleged Attempt to Illegally Deal in Waqf Properties Uncovered in Ramnagar
Ramnagar: Allegations of large-scale illegal dealings involving Waqf properties in Ramnagar have sparked serious concern, with senior political and community leaders calling for a transparent and comprehensive investigation. The controversy centres on an alleged attempt to misuse forged documents and institutional names to facilitate unauthorised transactions linked to Waqf properties.
The case has drawn attention after claims emerged that intermediaries approached several individuals with promises of favourable outcomes related to Waqf institutions in exchange for money. The alleged operation is believed to have targeted nearly 50 individuals, raising questions about the extent of the suspected network.

Forged Documents and Misuse of Waqf Board Name Alleged
Documents linked to the case are alleged to include forged letters, fake seals, and fabricated approvals falsely issued in the name of the Karnataka State Board of Auqaf. These documents were reportedly used to mislead buyers and candidates into believing that the transactions carried official approval.
Syed Ashraf, Former Political Secretary to a former Prime Minister, said the alleged misuse of the Waqf Board’s name amounted to serious fraud. “No private individual has the authority to issue approvals or facilitate transactions related to Waqf properties. Anyone collecting money by falsely invoking the Board’s name must be booked under the law,” he said.
Officials familiar with Waqf procedures have reiterated that all decisions relating to Waqf properties must strictly follow legal and institutional protocols.

Allegations of Police Non-Cooperation Surface
Concerns have also been raised over the handling of the case by local law enforcement. It is alleged that the local police inspector is not cooperating with the investigation and is instead siding with the buyers involved in the disputed transactions.
Obaidulla Sharif, KPCC Vice President, expressed concern over the alleged lack of impartiality. “If the investigation is influenced or selective, it will undermine public confidence. Buyers, sellers, and all witnesses who facilitated these illegal dealings must be treated equally under the law,” he said.
Given these concerns, demands have been made for the case to be transferred from the rural police station to the Ramnagar Town Police Station to ensure neutrality and transparency.
Demand for Booking All Parties Involved
Both leaders stressed that accountability should extend beyond a limited set of accused individuals. They maintained that all those who knowingly participated in the alleged illegal transactions must face legal action.
“This is not a routine dispute. It involves systematic exploitation of protected Waqf properties. Every person involved, directly or indirectly, must be investigated,” Syed Ashraf said.
Obaidulla Sharif added that failure to act decisively could encourage further encroachments on Waqf and other protected properties.

Past Allegations Against Anwar Basha Revisited
The controversy has been further compounded by references to earlier allegations against Anwar Basha, who has previously been accused of illegally occupying Waqf properties in Chitradurga, including an age-old graveyard.
Obaidulla Sharif said the background warranted closer scrutiny. “When there are serious past allegations of Waqf land grabbing, it becomes essential for investigators to examine whether there is any connection to the present case,” he said.

Call for Independent and Transparent Investigation
Both leaders called for strict legal action, including the seizure of forged documents and the registration of cases under relevant sections of law. They also urged authorities to ensure that the investigation proceeds without political or administrative interference.
“The credibility of institutions and the protection of Waqf properties are at stake. A fair, transparent, and time-bound investigation is the only way forward,” Syed Ashraf said.
The case remains under investigation as demands grow for accountability and stronger safeguards to prevent the alleged misuse and encroachment of Waqf properties.
