Educate, Empower, Comply: New Initiative to Guide Small Businesses on BIS Standards

Amazon India Partners with ISF to Launch National Drive for MSME Capacity Building

India SME Forum and Amazon India Launch Seller Education Drive to Promote BIS Compliance

In partnership with the Ministry of MSME, the initiative aims to build awareness and compliance capacity among small businesses through workshops, webinars, and digital support.

New Delhi, April 14: In a significant move to strengthen compliance awareness among India’s small business community, the India SME Forum (ISF), in partnership with Amazon India and with support from the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), has launched a national Seller Education Campaign. The initiative is focused on educating micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) about the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) compliance requirements essential for operating in India’s evolving digital marketplace.

The campaign comes amid growing recognition of the challenges MSME sellers face in navigating regulatory standards, particularly BIS-related obligations. The program is being implemented by the Forum for Internet Retailers, Sellers & Traders (FIRST), the B2C division of India SME Forum.

A Multi-Pronged Education Approach

The initiative includes a comprehensive mix of sector-specific webinars, educational videos, short films, and practical content. MSMEs will also have access to hands-on support through a dedicated helpline aimed at resolving queries and providing guidance on compliance issues.

“Our aim is to enable small businesses to thrive with the right knowledge, tools, and transparency,” said Vinod Kumar, President of India SME Forum. “We welcome Amazon India’s partnership in educating our members on critical compliances. These sessions will foster better understanding between sellers, regulators, and industry leaders.”

Enterprise Matters: A Platform for Dialogue

A key part of the campaign is the Enterprise Matters webinar series—an online platform created by ISF to enable dialogue between entrepreneurs and policymakers. These sessions will bring together sellers, manufacturers, industry experts, and government representatives to discuss pressing issues related to compliance, safety, and regulatory clarity.

“We are committed to enabling sellers on Amazon.in to offer compliant and safe products to customers,” said Amit Nanda, Director, Selling Partner Services at Amazon India. “Our collaboration with ISF will help build greater awareness and empower sellers through knowledge-sharing over the next few months.”

Focus on Trust, Safety, and Regulatory Readiness

The webinar sessions will explore best practices for staying compliant, updates on key regulatory changes, and the role of sellers in maintaining customer trust and safety. The initiative also aims to facilitate better collaboration between the seller community and regulatory bodies.

By building a foundation of awareness and accountability, the campaign seeks to bolster India’s broader digital commerce ecosystem, ensuring that MSMEs are well-equipped to meet both legal requirements and customer expectations.

Wide Accessibility and Outreach

The webinar sessions and educational content will be broadcast live on India SME Forum’s Facebook and YouTube channels, making them widely accessible to MSMEs across the country. The outreach is designed to benefit thousands of sellers who are part of India’s fast-growing online marketplace economy.

Conclusion

As India’s MSME sector continues to expand its digital footprint, the need for clear, accessible, and scalable compliance education has become more pressing. The collaboration between ISF, Amazon India, and the Ministry of MSME marks a proactive step toward empowering small businesses with the tools and knowledge to succeed in a regulated marketplace—while ensuring consumer safety and trust remain top priorities.
