Bengaluru, April 14: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah issued a clarion call to Congress workers to build ideological clarity and courage to counter what he called the “falsehoods spread by the RSS and BJP.” Speaking at the 134th birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar held at the KPCC’s Bharat Jodo Bhavan in Bengaluru, the Chief Minister underscored the importance of embracing truth and upholding constitutional values in the face of ideological opposition.

“We must develop the courage to speak the truth and confront the lies spread by the RSS and BJP parivar,” Siddaramaiah asserted, addressing party members and Ambedkarite followers at the event.

Call for Ideological Clarity Among Congress Cadres

Siddaramaiah emphasized that Congress workers must possess a deep understanding of the party’s principles and lead the ideological battle from the front.

“Our cadres must comprehend why Ambedkar set fire to the Manusmriti,” he said. “They must be able to clearly explain this to today’s youth and the general public.”

He pointed out that the Manusmriti and the caste system were central to institutionalized oppression and that Ambedkar’s life was dedicated to liberating marginalized communities from this historical injustice.

Ambedkar’s Vision and the Fight Against Inequality

Referring to Ambedkar’s famous speech during the Constituent Assembly debates, Siddaramaiah reiterated:

“From the day the Constitution was enacted, we entered a society riddled with social, economic, political, and educational inequalities. Ambedkar warned that unless these inequalities are eliminated, the goals of the Constitution cannot be fulfilled.”

He credited the Constitution with enabling education for hundreds of oppressed castes and communities who had historically been denied access to knowledge.

Quoting Ambedkar again, Siddaramaiah said:

“He once remarked that he pursued education solely to eradicate untouchability and secure justice for the deprived.”

Contesting the BJP’s Narrative on Ambedkar’s Legacy

Highlighting a lesser-known historical reference, Siddaramaiah said:

“On January 18, 1952, Ambedkar wrote a letter in his own handwriting stating that he lost the election due to the efforts of Savarkar and Dange. Yet, BJP leaders falsely claim Congress defeated Ambedkar. These are outright lies. Our workers must find the courage to correct these distortions.”

He accused the BJP of distorting history and aligning with “Manuwadi” ideology while claiming a superficial allegiance to Ambedkar.

“Only Congress Envisions Equal Progress”

Siddaramaiah positioned the Congress party as the only political force with a proven track record of inclusive development:

“Only Congress has historically and presently created and implemented programs for the equal development of all castes and religions,” he said.

Taking a sharp dig at the BJP, he remarked:

“The BJP only needs Savarkar and Godse, who assassinated Gandhi. But we revere Ambedkar, who gave us the mantra of education, organization, and struggle.”

Policy Challenge to Prime Minister Modi

In a bold political move, Siddaramaiah directly challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to implement the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCP) and Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) Act — a policy Karnataka claims to have effectively enacted — across the country.

“We have implemented this law in Karnataka. Can you do the same for the entire nation?” Siddaramaiah asked Modi publicly. “I challenge you to introduce it at the national level.”

New Initiatives: Ambedkar Museum and Monument

As part of the commemorative celebrations, the Chief Minister made two major announcements:

1. An Ambedkar Museum will be established in Bengaluru.

2. The tallest statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in the country will be erected in the city.

These initiatives aim to honour Ambedkar’s contributions and serve as symbols of Karnataka’s commitment to social justice and constitutional values.
