Govt.’s Welfare Schemes Ensure Economic Stability in Rural Areas: Priyank Kharge

New Gram Panchayat Building Inaugurated in Malur

Malur, Bengaluru | March 22, 2025 – Rural families are experiencing economic stability thanks to the government’s welfare initiatives, said Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge. Addressing the gathering at the inauguration of the new Gram Panchayat building in Santhehalli, Malur Taluk, Kharge emphasized how these programs are empowering the underprivileged, women, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and laborers.

“The financial assistance schemes have brought a sense of security to rural households. Families can now afford quality education for their children, repay loans, and access nutritious food. Small businesses are flourishing, and people are taking confident steps toward economic self-sufficiency,” he said. However, he criticized the opposition for attempting to mislead the public by spreading false claims about the government’s welfare programs.

Congress Government’s Commitment to Rural Development

Minister Kharge highlighted the Congress-led government’s consistent efforts in implementing people-centric policies. He pointed out that the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), introduced during Dr. Manmohan Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister, continues to provide 100 days of employment annually to rural workers.

“Our government has launched 3,867 ‘Kusina Mane’ centers, providing care for 50,000 children. This initiative has also created employment opportunities for 50,000 women under the MGNREGA scheme,” he added.

Solar Power Production to Begin in Malur and Kalaburagi

In a groundbreaking move, the government has announced a pilot project allowing Gram Panchayats to produce solar power for local use. The upcoming state budget has allocated funds for setting up solar power plants in Malur and Kalaburagi.

“This innovative initiative will enable villages to generate their own solar electricity, reducing dependency on external power sources and promoting sustainability,” Kharge stated.

Karnataka Leads in Rural Road Infrastructure Development

Karnataka is setting a benchmark in rural road development by investing ₹6,190 crore in the construction of 2,267 kilometers of roads under the Pragati Patha and Kalyana Patha schemes. Kharge emphasized that this investment, fully funded by the state government, will enhance rural connectivity and boost education and economic opportunities.

“By improving road infrastructure, we are laying the foundation for better education, healthcare, and economic growth in villages,” he said.
