Super Specialty Hospital in Kalaburagi to Be Inaugurated Soon: Minister Sharan Prakash Patil

Final Touches Underway for Hospital’s Grand Opening

Kalaburagi is set to witness a major milestone in its healthcare sector as the much-anticipated Super Specialty Hospital, constructed within the premises of the Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), is expected to be inaugurated within a month. Medical Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship Minister Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil confirmed this during his recent visit to the hospital, where he inspected the final phase of construction.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Patil stated, “All necessary arrangements are being made for the grand inauguration. We are coordinating with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Rajya Sabha Opposition Leader Dr. Mallikarjun Kharge to finalize the date. The hospital will soon be dedicated to the public.”

A Major Boost for Healthcare in Kalaburagi

The upcoming hospital is a crucial step towards establishing Kalaburagi as a healthcare hub. Built at a cost of ₹175 crore, the facility is equipped with medical infrastructure worth ₹40 crore. Additionally, ₹7-8 crore is being allocated to procure remaining medical equipment.

State-of-the-Art Infrastructure and Facilities

The 8th floor of GIMS will house a 14-bed dialysis unit, including 10 new dialysis machines. There is provision to install 14 more machines in a phased manner. This floor will also accommodate all Outpatient Department (OPD) services for super specialty treatments, along with a five-bed casualty ward.

The 9th floor will serve as the inpatient ward, initially offering 77 beds, with plans to expand capacity to 200 beds as needed. Meanwhile, the 10th floor will be dedicated to surgeries, featuring six operation theatres and 33 ICU beds, which could be increased to 62 beds depending on demand.

Specialized Services to Cover Nine Key Medical Disciplines

The Super Specialty Hospital will provide advanced medical care across nine key disciplines, including Neurosurgery, Neurology, Medical Gastroenterology, Surgical Gastroenterology, Plastic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Endocrinology, Nephrology, and Urology.

Highlighting the significance of these services, Dr. Patil remarked, “Poor patients previously had to spend large sums in private hospitals for these treatments. Now, they will receive world-class care at an affordable cost.”

Staffing and Recruitment Underway

The hospital has provisions for 21 specialist doctors, with 11 already appointed and two more currently serving on deputation. Additionally, a dedicated nursing staff has been recruited. To fill remaining vacancies, the government has floated tenders to hire personnel through external agencies.

Government’s Commitment to Elderly Care

Dr. Patil also expressed the state government’s deep concern for senior citizens, ensuring that they are not abandoned or left without care. He revealed that 150 elderly individuals have been left behind by their families at the Belagavi Medical Hospital, and investigations are underway to gather more such cases from other regions. “This is a serious social issue. The government will take stringent measures to prevent such unethical practices,” he affirmed.

Simplifying Sand Mining Policies for Public Benefit

In addition to healthcare, the minister addressed reforms in sand mining regulations to ensure quick and hassle-free access for the common people. He assured that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will soon introduce necessary amendments to simplify sand policies. Moreover, Kalaburagi district authorities have been instructed to curb illegal sand mafia activities, with SP Adduru Srinivasalu directed to take strict action against violators.

High-Level Meeting to Ensure Smooth Implementation

Following his hospital inspection, Dr. Patil held discussions with GIMS Director Dr. Umesh and Medical Superintendent Dr. Shivakumar C.R., along with other senior officials, to assess the hospital’s preparedness for its grand opening.

The upcoming inauguration marks a significant advancement in healthcare accessibility and medical infrastructure in North Karnataka, bringing world-class medical care closer to the people.
