Wisdom International School Holds Student Council Election to Nurture Future Leaders
Bengaluru: Wisdom International School, part of the Wisdom Group of Institutions, conducted its Student Representative Election (SRE) 2026 at its Richmond Town campus on Norris Road, giving students a hands-on experience of the democratic process while promoting leadership, responsibility and civic awareness.
Designed to mirror a real election, the exercise saw students participate as voters and election officials, complete with ballot papers, voter identity cards, polling arrangements, ink marking and designated roles such as Booth Level Officers (BLOs), Returning Officers and Election Commission representatives. The initiative aimed to help students understand the value of voting and the importance of choosing capable leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohammed Fiaz Sharief, Founder and CEO of Wisdom Group of Institutions, said the election was created to prepare students for future participation in democracy and leadership.
“We want students to understand not only how to vote, but why voting matters. Leadership is often misunderstood. Through this process, we teach children the qualities of a true leader and help them identify and become responsible leaders who can contribute positively to society,” he said.
Sharief noted that students were briefed about the election process before polling and educated on the responsibilities of leadership. He said involving children in every stage of the election helps them develop awareness from a young age.
“Training children to identify good leaders automatically helps create effective leadership. If we can teach them the meaning of leadership early, they will make better decisions for themselves and society in the future,” he added.
Leadership Through Experience
The institution has integrated leadership training into its educational framework through student councils, class leadership roles and special recognition for students who demonstrate leadership qualities.
According to Sharief, leadership is not about popularity or appearance but about responsibility, integrity, service and the ability to work for the common good. Students who exhibit these values are encouraged and recognised through leadership programmes and certificates.
Students Emphasise Honesty and Responsibility: Students Reflect on the Experience
Students who participated in the election said the experience helped them understand the significance of democracy and responsible voting.
Maryam said the election taught students how to choose representatives who can improve their school and serve the needs of fellow students. “A good leader should work for the welfare of people, promote peace and harmony, and focus on education and opportunities for everyone,” she said.
Khatijatul Kubra stressed the importance of fair elections and equal treatment. “A leader must be honest, responsible and capable. They should help everyone without favouritism and treat all people equally,” she said.
Noor Ayn said the mock election gave students practical experience for future participation in public elections. “We are learning how to vote wisely and select leaders who work with honesty, responsibility and fairness,” she said.
Ayesha Momin said student council elections help students understand real-world governance. “Teachers cannot manage everything alone. Student representatives play an important role in maintaining discipline and helping fellow students,” she noted.
Students Syed Hasnain, Mohammed Arshad, Mohammed Ahsan and Mohammed Usman echoed similar views, saying leaders should listen to people, uphold constitutional values, ensure equality and work towards the overall development of society.
The election process was conducted under the supervision of Capt. Syed Meeran, Election Commissioner, Shivakumar, BLO, Rahmatullah Shah, Presiding Officer, and Moulana Sheik Qamruddin.
The initiative reflected the institution’s broader goal of shaping informed, responsible and confident young citizens equipped with the values needed for leadership in the future.
