Abbas Khan Degree College Elects New Student Council, Reinforcing Democratic Values on Campus
Students Embrace Leadership Through a Vibrant Democratic Exercise
Bengaluru, July 30: Upholding the spirit of democracy and nurturing future leaders, Abbas Khan Degree College for Women successfully conducted its Student Council Election for the academic year 2026–27 on July 26. The election witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to cultivating responsible leadership, democratic values and active civic engagement.
Affiliated with Dr. Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University, the college transformed the election into a meaningful learning experience, allowing students to understand the significance of voting, representation and collective decision-making within an academic environment.
Following the democratic process, Ms. Bibi Umme Kulsum was elected President, Ms. Bibi Shama as Vice President, Ms. Umme Kulsum A as Secretary, Ms. Taskeen Begum as Treasurer, Ms. Umme Hani as Sports Captain, Ms. Shahreen Fathima as Sports Vice-Captain, Ms. Noor Sabha as Cultural Secretary and Ms. Arfa Anjum as NSS Leader.
Preparing Future Citizens Through Campus Democracy
The college administration described the election as more than a routine campus activity, emphasising that democratic participation helps students develop leadership, accountability, integrity and teamwork. In a nation like India, the world’s largest democracy, such initiatives provide young citizens with valuable practical exposure to democratic institutions and responsible governance.
Dr. M.S. Vidya, Principal of Abbas Khan Degree College for Women, said, “Democracy flourishes when young minds learn to lead with integrity, responsibility and compassion. Student elections provide an excellent platform to nurture confident leaders who can contribute positively to society while respecting the values of equality, participation and accountability.”

Congratulating the newly elected office-bearers, Dr. Attar Syed Murtaza Hussain, General Secretary, CMA of Karnataka, urged the student leaders to become role models both inside and outside the campus.
“The true purpose of leadership is to inspire, unite and serve. Let this responsibility become an opportunity to uphold ethical values, encourage inclusivity and work tirelessly for the welfare and holistic development of every student,” he said.
