State Vows to Slash Organ Transplant Costs with New Bengaluru Facility

Karnataka Government Aims to Make Organ Transplants Affordable, Announces New Bengaluru Facility

Mandya, October 24 – The Karnataka government is intensifying its focus on making life-saving organ transplantation services accessible and affordable for its citizens, with a major new facility underway in the state capital, announced Dr. Sharanprakash R. Patil, Minister for Medical Education.

The minister’s declaration came during his address at the 2025 induction programme for MBBS and Allied Health Science students at the Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences, signalling a significant push to bridge the healthcare affordability gap.

A New Hub for Transplant Medicine

A central part of the government’s strategy is the construction of a dedicated 10-storey facility in Bengaluru. Dr. Patil stated that this new centre is designed to strengthen the state’s organ transplant ecosystem.

“Our aim is to make organ transplant services accessible and affordable to those in need,” he stated, outlining the project’s core objective.

Bridging the Cost Gap in Healthcare

The minister directly addressed the prohibitive cost of private healthcare, positioning government services as a critical alternative. “Getting an organ transplant in private hospitals costs several lakhs of rupees. The government is committed to offering these advanced medical services at affordable costs using state-of-the-art equipment,” Dr. Patil affirmed.

He highlighted that the government has already laid the groundwork through its Institute of Gastroenterology and Organ Transplantation, where successful transplant procedures are being conducted.

A Call for Compassion in Medicine

Shifting his focus to the new cohort of medical students, Dr. Patil emphasized that technical skill must be paired with empathy. “Doctors must treat patients with empathy,” he urged. “If your hands have skill and your heart has kindness, the patient is already halfway healed.”

The induction ceremony was held in the presence of Sri Sri Sri Dr. Nirmalanandanatha Mahaswamiji. Senior officials from Adichunchanagiri University, faculty members, students, and parents were also present.
