Extremely Heavy Rainfall Expected in Bengaluru & Across Karnataka; IMD Issues Red Alert for Several Districts

Bengaluru, 13 June, 2025 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast extremely heavy rainfall across Karnataka on Friday, issuing a red alert for multiple districts. Bengaluru, along with several coastal and interior regions, is expected to experience intense rain, cloudy skies, and high humidity throughout the day.

According to the IMD, Bengaluru will see a minimum temperature of 21°C and a maximum of 27°C. The city witnessed sunrise at 5:53 AM and is expected to see sunset at 6:46 PM. Humidity levels are projected to remain high, at around 81%.

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) also issued updates via social media, warning of scattered moderate to very heavy rainfall with gusty winds in coastal and Malnad districts from June 13 to June 16. A red alert has been declared in several parts of the state.

Six districts — Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga — have been placed under red alert due to the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall on June 13. An orange alert has been issued for Hassan, Davangere, Haveri, Dharwad, Gadag, and Belagavi districts, while a yellow alert is in place for the rest of Karnataka.

Due to the adverse weather, schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centres have been declared closed today in Kodagu and Hubballi-Dharwad. In Kodagu, persistent rainfall since Wednesday afternoon has led to widespread cloud cover and a foggy atmosphere, prompting authorities to extend the holiday for educational institutions on Friday as well.

The rainfall is expected to continue over the weekend. On June 14, red alerts will be in effect in five districts: Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu, and Chikkamagaluru. Several others, including Shivamogga, Hassan, Haveri, Dharwad, Gadag, Belagavi, Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, and Bidar, are under orange alerts.

The IMD has also indicated that the rain will likely persist into the next week. A red alert has been extended for seven districts in coastal and Malnad Karnataka, while orange alerts are in effect for Mysuru, Davangere, Haveri, Gadag, Koppal, Dharwad, Bagalkot, Belagavi, and Bidar.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel in the affected areas.
