Milli Council Condemns Action Against Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, Calls for Protection of Educational Institutions

Says Universities Must Be Strengthened, Not Undermined; Urges UP and Union Governments to Act with Justice and Constitutional Responsibility

New Delhi, 22 July 2026: The All India Milli Council has expressed deep concern over the recent court verdict concerning Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, describing the development as a serious setback for higher education and a matter of concern for millions of citizens who believe in justice, constitutional values and equal access to education.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Maulana Aneesur Rahman Qasmi, Working President of the All India Milli Council, urged the Uttar Pradesh government and the Government of India to ensure that educational institutions are protected from actions that could undermine their contribution to nation-building.

Maulana Qasmi said educational institutions are not merely physical structures but centres of intellectual growth, social reform and cultural advancement. He stressed that every decision affecting such institutions should be guided by justice, fairness and the larger national interest.

“The recent development has deeply saddened millions of justice-loving citizens, particularly members of the Muslim community. Educational institutions shape the future of society, and their protection must remain a national priority,” he said.

Describing Mohammad Ali Jauhar University as an important symbol of educational empowerment, he noted that the institution has played a significant role in expanding access to higher education, particularly for socially and economically disadvantaged sections.

‘Protect Education, Don’t Punish Institutions’

The Milli Council maintained that any legal or administrative shortcomings should be addressed through lawful and constructive measures without jeopardising the future of an educational institution.

“If legal or administrative deficiencies exist, they should be resolved within the framework of law while preserving the institution. The solution cannot be extinguishing the light of education,” Maulana Qasmi said.

He warned that weakening educational institutions would adversely affect the country’s academic environment and deprive future generations of valuable opportunities.

“India needs more universities, not fewer. The nation must invest in education instead of creating uncertainty around institutions that contribute to social progress,” he added.

Government Urged to Rise Above Political Considerations

While reaffirming the Council’s respect for the judiciary and constitutional institutions, Maulana Qasmi said it was equally important that educational, social and national interests receive due consideration in matters of such significance.

The Council criticised what it described as the approach of the Uttar Pradesh government and the Government of India towards the university, alleging that actions against educational institutions should never become instruments of political rivalry or administrative excess. It urged both governments to resolve the matter with fairness, impartiality and constitutional responsibility while safeguarding the interests of students and society.

Appealing to the Muslim community and all justice-loving citizens, Maulana Qasmi urged people to respond through peaceful, lawful and democratic means.

“We must raise our voice with patience, wisdom and faith in the Constitution. Protecting education is not the responsibility of one community alone; it is essential for safeguarding the future of the entire nation,” he said.

Prayer for Justice and Constitutional Values

Concluding his statement, Maulana Qasmi prayed for the strengthening of justice, tolerance and the rule of the Constitution in the country. He also expressed hope that all educational institutions would receive the protection and encouragement necessary to continue serving future generations without fear or uncertainty.
