Veena Prakash Singh: Carrying Forward a Legacy of Service Beyond Self

Veena Prakash Singh – Profile at a Glance

Veena Prakash Singh’s life is deeply rooted in the values of service, compassion, and social responsibility. Born into a family originally from the coastal region of Andhra Pradesh, her parents migrated to Hyderabad in the 1950s, carrying with them a strong sense of purpose. Her father, the first educated member of a farmer’s family, served with distinction in the Income Tax Department. Her mother was a correspondent of two schools, committed to education and empowerment.

In 1964, her father founded an NGO dedicated to uplifting marginalized communities, particularly within the Muslim community, through education, skill development, healthcare, and housing. This work was not charity, but a way of life. Veena grew up believing that service to the needy is service to God—a principle that continues to guide her journey.

The youngest among five sisters and three brothers, Veena was inspired by a family of achievers. Her sisters served as teachers, professors, and principals. One sister led the Andhra Pradesh Destitute Welfare Organisation, established by their father, until her passing in January 2025. With her sister’s demise, Veena has now stepped forward to shoulder the responsibility of leading and sustaining this legacy of service.

Academically, Veena holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism and once aspired to the civil services—an experience that strengthened her resilience and broadened her perspective. Today, she channels her commitment into multiple initiatives. She is the Founder of VKS Sharanya Welfare Society, Co-founder of Alpona, a handicrafts enterprise producing handloom clothing, terracotta jewellery, and bamboo and wood décor, and the driving force behind VKS Creative Skill Academy, a training and placement institute.

Inspired by her parents, sister, and supported by her husband, Veena envisions expanding her work into a hub for entrepreneurship development, especially for women. Her mission is to enable women to become financially independent through their own skills. Her most cherished dream is to establish a senior citizens’ home with a 10-bed clinic, blending dignity, care, and compassion.

Veena Prakash Singh stands as a living bridge between legacy and future—proving that true leadership begins with service beyond self.
