88% of Bengaluru Professionals Plan to Upskill in FY26 as AI Disrupts Jobs

Bengaluru Professionals Embrace Upskilling as AI Reshapes the Workforce

Bengaluru, September 2, 2025 – In the face of rapid technological disruption, professionals in India’s tech capital are responding with a proactive commitment to learning, with a staggering 88% planning to acquire new technical skills in the coming fiscal year. According to the latest Upskilling Trends Report by Great Learning, Bengaluru ranks second nationally in upskilling intent, highlighting a workforce determined to future-proof its career.

The report reveals a landscape of cautious optimism. While the city’s technology sector has been significantly impacted by recent job cuts, 78% of professionals express confidence in retaining their current roles over the next year. This sentiment is underpinned by a near-universal belief in the power of education; 93% of those surveyed consider upskilling critical to safeguarding their careers against market shifts.

GenAI Integration and the AI Skills Surge

A key driver of this upskilling trend is the swift integration of Generative AI into daily work. The study found that 64% of Bengaluru’s professionals are already frequently using tools like ChatGPT and Bard in their workflows. Adoption is being led by departments such as product development, software engineering, R&D, marketing, and customer support.

Reflecting this shift, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning have emerged as the most sought-after skills, with 43% of learners prioritizing this domain. Specializations in Agentic AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Python programming are particularly in demand. Professionals are also seeking to build expertise in deploying GenAI applications on cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS.

Job Market Dynamics and Mobility

The evolving tech landscape is also influencing job mobility. The report indicates that 56% of professionals in the city are actively seeking new roles, while another 38% are passively open to opportunities. When considering a move, work-life balance and job security are now top priorities, alongside traditional factors like salary, benefits, and leadership opportunities. However, professionals cite unmet salary expectations, intense competition for open roles, and a need for additional certifications as the main barriers to securing a new position.

Commenting on the findings, Hari Krishnan Nair, Co-Founder of Great Learning, said, “Bengaluru, as India’s tech and innovation hub, offers a unique perspective into how AI is reshaping the workforce. Our findings show that professionals here are responding with optimism and action. Despite the uncertainty, most are choosing to upskill, adapt, and integrate AI to stay ahead. This hunger to learn positions Bengaluru’s talent pool to lead in the next wave of innovation.”

The comprehensive report, based on a survey of over 1,000 professionals across India, underscores a broader narrative of resilience. It illustrates how Bengaluru’s workforce is strategically navigating AI-driven disruption through upskilling, viewing technological change not as a threat, but as a catalyst for positive career evolution.
