Karnataka’s First Study Abroad Expo Draws Thousands, Offers Scholarships and Global Opportunities
Bengaluru, August 17, 2025 – Karnataka’s inaugural Study Abroad Expo, organized by the Karnataka Vocational Training and Skill Development Corporation (KVTSDC), saw an overwhelming turnout as over 10,000 students and parents gathered to explore higher education opportunities at 65 international universities. Supported by the State Skill Development Department, the event provided direct access to global institutions, scholarship announcements, and financial aid options, marking a significant step in making overseas education more accessible.
Strong Student Interest in Global Education
From early morning, long queues formed as students sought guidance on admissions, courses, and funding. University representatives noted that while not all inquiries would lead to immediate admissions, nearly 50% of discussions could convert into enrolments.
For many attendees, the expo provided much-needed clarity. Laxmi, a final-year engineering student, said, “This event gave me a clear picture of my options abroad.” Humera, a PU graduate, appreciated the focus on affordability: “The scholarships and loan facilities discussed here make overseas education feel possible for students like me.” Meanwhile, Vinod, a commerce student, found value in direct interactions: “I had many questions about job opportunities after studies, and it was helpful to hear directly from universities.”

Exclusive Scholarships Unveiled
Several top universities announced exclusive scholarships for KVTSDC students:
-
University of Western Australia (UWA) – Ranked among the world’s top 100, UWA offered scholarships worth AUD 48,000 for undergraduates and AUD 24,000 for postgraduates.
-
University of East Anglia (UEA), UK – Announced two 50% scholarships for eligible candidates.
-
Bangor University, UK – Also offered two 50% scholarships, reinforcing opportunities for Karnataka’s students.
Engineering, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Pharmacy emerged as the most sought-after fields. Geetha Kuruba, a representative from North Texas University, observed, “Most students inquire about engineering, AI, and pharmacy programmes in the USA. They’re keen on understanding bachelor’s, master’s, and research opportunities, along with safety and campus facilities.”

Financial Support Eases Overseas Education Barriers
Beyond scholarships, students explored education loan options with Karnataka Bank, which extended favourable terms to make global education more attainable.
Government’s Long-Term Commitment
Emphasizing transparency and sustained support, Skill Development Minister Dr. Sharanaprakash Patil stated, “This initiative goes beyond admissions. We are committed to standing with our students even after they move abroad.”
KVTSDC Chairperson Shivakanthamma Naik reinforced the expo’s long-term vision, calling it a support system for Karnataka’s youth rather than a one-off event.

Conclusion: A Gateway to Global Learning
The Study Abroad Expo has set a strong precedent, bridging the gap between Karnataka’s students and international universities while addressing financial and academic concerns. With government backing and institutional partnerships, the event promises to expand opportunities for the state’s aspiring global scholars.
