Organised by Australia-based I Compete Natural (ICN), the global fitness event saw more than 600 athletes from 27 countries competing in different natural bodybuilding categories. Amid this international pool of talent, Jyothsna stood tall — proving that age, motherhood, and societal expectations can never outweigh conviction.
A Journey Born from Courage and Discipline
Speaking to the media after her win, Jyothsna said she wanted to prove one simple truth: “Age is just a number and should not be a barrier to realising one’s dream.”

She shared how her transformation began with an inner decision to take charge of her health and life. With immense gratitude, she credited her coach, Sabarish Balakrishna Naidu, for guiding her through the rigorous process.
“Nothing is impossible if one has willpower, perseverance, discipline and determination,” she said. She also urged women above 40 to not hold back: “When I succeeded in shedding 28 kgs and winning a gold medal, why not others?”
Her message echoes far beyond the world of fitness. It stands as a beacon for anyone struggling with self-doubt or social limitations.

A Story That Resonates Around the World
Jyothsna’s victory has drawn admiration from scholars, athletes, social leaders and fitness experts across continents. Many see her as a new symbol of empowered womanhood.
Jayeeta Roy, Research Scholar in Sweden and author of the book Rape – Blame it on Patriarchy and Conservatism in India, called Jyothsna’s journey “extraordinary” and deeply transformational for India’s fitness community.
“At 48, Jyothsna has done something remarkable not just for herself, but for India’s entire fitness community,” Roy said. She added that Jyothsna’s story proves how discipline can reshape any life:
“Age, circumstance and expectation don’t define you — persistence does. Her journey is a quiet revolution in how we understand strength, health and possibility.”
Breaking Barriers in a Male-Dominated Sport
For many women in sports, the path is tougher. For women in bodybuilding, it is often twice as hard. National-level powerlifter Greeshma Bernad, who understands the intensity of natural bodybuilding, said Jyothsna’s achievement deserves “a huge round of applause.”
“It is incredibly tough for women at the age of 48, especially while dealing with menopause and hormonal changes,” she said. “Her victory on a world stage is extraordinary.”
Bernad also pointed out how mainstream media often ignores such inspiring achievements:
“Media will always show cricket. Hard work and commitment like this rarely get the attention they deserve.”
Activist and lawyer Brinda Adige praised Jyothsna for breaking into what has traditionally been considered a male bastion.
“You are an inspiration — claiming gold with grit and grace,” she said in a heartfelt note. “Your victory boldly and unapologetically reaffirms our collective power. Keep shining, keep leading.”
Inspiration for Mothers, Working Women and Young Athletes
For many, Jyothsna’s success stands out because she is not just an athlete — she is a mother of two and a working professional. Her ability to balance family, business and rigorous training has sparked conversations about what women can achieve when they reclaim ownership of their identity.
Privil Rodrigues Kannadiga, an MC from Mumbai, summed it up:
“Jyothsna shows what happens when determination meets discipline. She didn’t treat fitness as a hobby — it became her identity. She’s proof that women don’t lose themselves after motherhood; they rediscover themselves.”
The founders of the Bangalore Sports Lovers Association (BSLA), Debmalya Bhattacharyya and Payel Sengupta, also saluted her accomplishment.
“Becoming a world champion at 48, while being a mother of two, is remarkable,” they said. “In a male-dominated sport, her victory will inspire many Indian women and youngsters to take up bodybuilding professionally.”
A Historic Win for Indian Women
For Kinjal Roy, Chartered Accountant and BSLA core team member from Pune, Jyothsna’s win marks a new chapter in India’s sporting narrative.
“Breaking every stereotype, she has become the first Indian woman to win a World Championship Gold in Natural Bodybuilding — and she did it at 48,” she said. Roy applauded Jyothsna’s journey from “an overweight dreamer to a world champion,” calling it a powerful reminder that women can dominate, excel and redefine strength on their own terms.
“She didn’t just win a title,” Roy added. “She shattered barriers.”
A Legacy That Will Inspire Generations
Jyothsna Venkatesh Naidu’s story is more than a sporting victory. It is a reminder — to women, to mothers, to anyone battling self-doubt — that it is never too late to begin again. Her achievement stands as a celebration of discipline, courage and the unyielding belief that dreams do not expire with age.
Her gold medal carries a message for the nation: “When a woman decides to rise, she brings an entire generation with her.”
