AAP Demands Immediate Suspension and Criminal Case Against BBMP Forest Officials Over Fatal Tree Branch Incident
Bengaluru, June 16, 2025 – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Karnataka President, Sitaram Gundappa, has called for the immediate suspension and criminal prosecution of senior Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) forest department officials following a tragic incident in Srinagar, Bengaluru, where a young man, Akshay, was fatally injured by a falling tree branch.
Gundappa, who visited Akshay at Apollo Hospital in Jayanagar along with AAP workers, expressed outrage over the civic body’s negligence and demanded urgent accountability.
Negligence Led to Tragedy
The incident highlights years of ignored warnings from citizens and activists about the dangers posed by decaying trees and unstable branches across the city. Despite repeated complaints, BBMP’s forest department allegedly failed to take preventive action, putting countless lives at risk.
“AAP workers have consistently raised concerns about old trees and weak branches for years, but BBMP officials have turned a blind eye,” Gundappa told reporters. “Their negligence has endangered Bengaluru’s citizens, and Akshay’s tragic accident is a direct consequence of their inaction.”
Call for Accountability
Gundappa urged the state government to take stringent action, including suspending top officials and filing criminal charges. “If the government is serious about accountability, it must act decisively—suspend the responsible officers and initiate a criminal case,” he asserted.
Several AAP leaders, including Saravan, Irthad, Veena Saraw, and Manikanth, echoed the demand, condemning the administration’s repeated failures in addressing public safety hazards.
A Pattern of Avoidable Accidents
This is not an isolated incident. Similar accidents due to poorly maintained trees have occurred frequently in Bengaluru, raising questions about BBMP’s commitment to citizen safety. Critics argue that despite recurring tragedies, the civic body has failed to implement systematic tree maintenance or risk assessment protocols.
Public Outcry Grows
The incident has reignited public anger over urban infrastructure neglect. Residents and activists demand immediate action, including city-wide tree audits and swift removal of hazardous branches.
As investigations proceed, pressure mounts on BBMP to address systemic lapses and ensure such tragedies are prevented in the future.
