AISA Alleges ABVP-linked Attack on Student in Bengaluru, Demands Swift Police Action
Student Assaulted After Protests Against Central Government, Claims AISA
Bengaluru, 30 July 2026: The All India Students’ Association (AISA) has alleged that one of its members was assaulted by suspected Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists in Bengaluru on the night of July 28, following the student’s participation in protests demanding accountability from the Union government over education-related issues.
According to AISA, the student was attacked and threatened for participating in demonstrations held at Freedom Park in solidarity with the nationwide student-youth protests at Jantar Mantar. The organisation claimed that the attackers questioned the student’s demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and caused serious injuries to the student’s leg, requiring plaster treatment.
AISA said an FIR has been registered at the Jalahalli Police Station and demanded immediate action against those responsible.
AISA Links Attack to Wider Alleged Suppression of Student Dissent
The student organisation stated that the protests, which initially began over the NEET issue, expanded into a larger movement against what it described as the “failure” of the BJP-led government in ensuring access to quality education and protecting democratic rights.
“University campuses have increasingly witnessed acts of intimidation and violence carried out with apparent impunity,” AISA said, alleging that ABVP has repeatedly acted as a force to suppress dissent against the RSS-BJP establishment.
The organisation cited incidents, including alleged attacks and vandalism at Azim Premji University, as part of what it termed a broader pattern of targeting student voices.
Questions Raised Over Handling of Protests in Karnataka
AISA also criticised the handling of recent demonstrations in Karnataka, stating that incidents of restricting dissent have occurred despite the state being governed by the Congress party.
“During the Freedom Park protests in solidarity with students at Jantar Mantar, police attempted to remove a poster that directly criticised the BJP government’s actions. An FIR was filed against the person holding the poster,” the organisation alleged.
AISA claimed that the latest assault on a student in Bengaluru reflected growing concerns over freedom of expression and the right to protest.
AISA Demands Investigation and Strict Action
Strongly condemning the alleged attack, AISA demanded a fair and speedy investigation by Bengaluru Police and urged the Home Department to intervene.
“We strongly condemn this assault on our comrade and demand strict action against those responsible. We demand swift justice from the Bengaluru Police,” AISA said.
The organisation also appealed to media houses to highlight the issue and ensure that the investigation proceeds without delay.
