Karnataka Government Freezes Medical, Dental Course Fees for Current Academic Year
No Fee Hike for UG, PG Courses; Parents and Students Breathe Easy
Bengaluru, 12 June 2026 – In a significant relief for thousands of aspiring medical students and their families, the Karnataka government has decided not to hike fees for medical, dental, undergraduate, and postgraduate courses in the current academic year, maintaining the status quo.
The decision, taken during a meeting chaired by Medical Education Minister Dr. Sharanaprakash Patil with private medical and dental college management boards at Vikasa Soudha on Friday, has dispelled widespread anxiety over a potential fee increase.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Dr. Patil clarified that the government has rejected proposals from private college managements seeking a fee revision. “The fees that existed in the 2025-26 academic year will continue unchanged,” he stated.
The Minister acknowledged the additional stress already faced by students and parents due to the cancellation of the NEET entrance examination and the subsequent need for retests. “It would not be appropriate to increase fees at such a time,” he added, urging families not to fall prey to speculation.
