CJP Gives CEC Gyanesh Kumar 48 Hours to Resign, Threatens Nationwide Stir Over SIR
Party questions voter exclusions, internal EC objections and centralisation of electoral-roll data

New Delhi, 24 Sept. 2026: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has given Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar 48 hours to resign over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, warning that it will launch a nationwide agitation followed by an indefinite sit-in in Delhi if its demands are not addressed.
Launching its nationwide “Election Commission Thik Karo” campaign, CJP National Convenor Abhijeet Dipke and Co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka raised concerns over more than 13 crore names that the party says were excluded from draft electoral rolls across 30 States and Union Territories during the SIR exercise.
“Democracy means that people choose their government. This is not democracy, this is autocracy,” Dipke said. “When millions of names can disappear from draft rolls, the burden is on the Commission to establish that every exclusion is lawful, transparent and subject to meaningful review.”
‘Who Authorised These Decisions?’
CJP also raised questions over reported objections by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi concerning voter additions and deletions, changes to Form 6 and centralisation of electoral-roll data.
“The Election Commission must publicly explain how these objections were dealt with and who authorised the decisions in question,” Dipke said.
Das sought scrutiny of changes affecting first-time voters, handling of West Bengal SIR-related appeals and centralisation of voter data.
“Every decision affecting a citizen’s right to vote must have a clear legal basis, an identifiable decision-maker and a transparent record,” he said.
Ranka asked, “Who authorised the removal of citizens from electoral rolls without first ensuring a transparent and accessible remedy?”
Resignation, Probe and Halt to Exclusions Demanded
CJP demanded Kumar’s resignation and an independent investigation into disputed SIR decisions. It also sought an immediate halt to further SIR-related exclusions, restoration of the January 2025 electoral rolls pending verification, and preservation of relevant records for an independent or judicially supervised inquiry.
The party further demanded changes to the Election Commission appointment framework and publication of the Commissioners’ objection notes and responses.
The Election Commission, however, has disputed CJP’s interpretation of the reported internal objections, maintaining that the notes formed part of its decision-making process and that final decisions were unanimous.
“If Gyanesh Kumar does not resign within 48 hours, we will take this campaign to the streets,” Ranka warned, demanding transparency, accountability and restoration of every eligible voter allegedly excluded.
