Bengaluru, 5 September 2026:<\/strong> The message that the gift of sight can transform lives resonated strongly at \u2018Prekshana 2026 \u2013 Give Sight, Give Life\u2019<\/strong>,<\/span> organised by Narayana Nethralaya, Rajajinagar, and its Dr. Rajkumar Eye Bank as part of the 41st National Eye Donation Fortnight<\/strong>. The programme sought to create wider awareness about eye donation and encourage more people to pledge their eyes.<\/p>\n

The celebrations opened with a felicitation ceremony at the Dr. K. Bhujang Shetty Auditorium<\/strong>, where volunteers, eye collection centres and others associated with the eye donation process were recognised for their dedicated service. The Dr. K. Bhujang Shetty Award<\/strong> was presented to Terapanth Yuvak Parishad, Bengaluru<\/strong>, for being the Best Eye Collection Centre, while the Harish Nanjappa Award<\/strong> went to Manipal Hospital, Malleswaram<\/strong>, for its outstanding efforts in promoting awareness about eye donation.<\/p>\n

Blind Walk Highlights Challenges Faced by Visually Impaired<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

The programme later moved to the Orion Mall Amphitheatre, Rajajinagar<\/strong>, where Narayana Nethralaya Director Dr. Naren Shetty<\/strong> <\/span>flagged off a Blind Walk. More than 200 people, including doctors and staff, children, mall visitors and members of the public, participated. The experience offered participants a glimpse of the difficulties of moving without sight while underscoring the need for empathy, accessibility and inclusion.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe all have the power to change someone\u2019s life, and one way we can do this is through the gift of eye donation, through which those living in darkness can see the light again,\u201d said Dr. Naren Shetty. Recalling the contribution of his father, Dr. K. Bhujang Shetty, and Dr. Rajkumar, he said they had started an eye donation movement that inspired greater public participation. \u201cWe need more awareness to create more impact, and I urge the public to come forward and donate their eyes,\u201d he appealed.<\/p>\n

Rajkumar Family Reaffirms Commitment to Eye Donation<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

The evening featured a musical performance by visually challenged artists of Sneha Jyoti Rasamanjasari Kalatanda, Belagavi<\/strong>, highlighting talent, dignity and inclusion.<\/p>\n

A spectacular drone show became the evening\u2019s major attraction, portraying the importance of vision and how donated eyes can bring light into another person\u2019s life. It also featured Dr. Rajkumar, Puneeth Rajkumar and Dr. Shiva Rajkumar<\/strong>, who have been closely associated with the cause.<\/p>\n

Chief Guest Dr. Shiva Rajkumar<\/strong> said, \u201cOur family has been very closely associated with Narayana Nethralaya and its eye donation movement right from the time of Appaji, Dr. Rajkumar, who not only gave his name to the eye bank but also donated his eyes.\u201d He added that the entire family had subsequently donated or pledged their eyes. \u201cEveryone must think of donating their eyes as a social responsibility. A gift of sight is a gift of life,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The programme also stressed the crucial role families can play during bereavement. With a family\u2019s consent following the death of a loved one, eye donation can help restore sight to someone waiting in darkness.<\/p>\n

The Dr. Rajkumar Eye Bank<\/strong> continues to support eye donation, including the collection and utilisation of donated corneas. Prekshana 2026 sought to carry this life-changing message to a wider audience and inspire more pledges.<\/p>\n
