Dr. Saramma Mathew<\/strong> is a humanitarian, social worker, women\u2019s empowerment advocate and committed public servant whose extraordinary journey has been shaped by resilience, compassion and an unwavering determination to stand with the vulnerable. Born at an Army Hospital in Kolkata to an Army personnel and raised in Bengaluru in an Army environment, she grew up with values of discipline, courage, service and patriotism.<\/p>\n

Her formative years at Kendriya Vidyalaya, A.S.C. Centre, Bengaluru, gave her cherished memories and a deep appreciation for freedom, dignity and the innocence of childhood. After her father\u2019s transfer to Kerala, she continued her education at Kendriya Vidyalaya Girinagar and Maharaja\u2019s College, before pursuing Hindi studies through Hindi Prachar Sabha.<\/p>\n

From childhood, Saramma possessed an instinctive desire to help those in distress. The difficult experiences and emotional challenges she encountered during her teenage years became a turning point, transforming vulnerability into courage and strengthening her resolve to protect and support deprived women, men and children. Her faith and inner conviction inspired her to turn personal struggles into a lifelong mission of service.<\/p>\n

Marriage and motherhood brought new responsibilities, but never diminished her aspirations. She embraced family as her first priority while continuing her educational and social journey. She completed her postgraduate studies while expecting her second child\u2014an achievement reflecting her extraordinary determination. Blessed with two children, she describes her journey as that of a \u201cDasa Bhuja\u201d woman<\/strong>, constantly balancing family, profession and social responsibility.<\/p>\n

Along with her husband, she travelled to tribal villages, working to promote language education, medical cleanliness, awareness and dignity of life. Her humanitarian commitment has taken her to situations where she has responded to the needs of women, children and families, even at midnight.<\/p>\n

One particularly moving episode was her rescue of an abandoned baby girl whom she encountered during her morning cycling routine at a university campus. Her intervention gave the vulnerable child a chance at safety and dignity.<\/p>\n

Her service has extended to public safety as well. She has volunteered during traffic emergencies, helped facilitate passage for ambulances, supported police night patrols and served as part of a COVID-19 quarantine squad<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Recognising her commitment to humanity, she was honoured with the Best Human Rights Award<\/strong> by the All India Council of Human Rights Liberties & Social Justice.<\/p>\n

For Dr. Saramma Mathew, social service is not merely an activity\u2014it is a lifelong calling. Her aspiration is to empower women to become strong pillars of society and work collectively to confront violence, injustice and social vulnerabilities.<\/p>\n
