Congress Urged to Fulfil 10 Unkept Poll Promises as KRMO Launches Statewide Campaign Across Karnataka<\/span><\/h2>\n

Bengaluru, 20 July 2026:\u00a0<\/strong>The Karnataka Rajya Muslim Okkuta (KRMO)<\/span> has launched a statewide campaign demanding that the Congress government in Karnataka fulfil ten major promises made to the Muslim community during the 2023 Assembly elections. The organisation said that although three years of the government’s tenure have been completed, only one major commitment, the withdrawal of the hijab restriction, has been fulfilled, while the remaining promises continue to await implementation.<\/p>\n

KRMO said the assurances were made by the Congress party and its national and state leadership before the elections and should now be honoured without any further delay. It warned that continued inaction could weaken the trust reposed by the community in the government.<\/p>\n

Convenor Suhail Ahmad Maroor said, “Three years have passed since the Congress government assumed office, yet nine of the ten major promises made to the Muslim community remain unfulfilled. The time for assurances is over. The time for implementation has arrived.”<\/p>\n

Reservation, Waqf Protection, Minority Welfare Among Key Demands<\/span><\/h3>\n

The pending promises highlighted by KRMO include restoration of 2B reservation for Muslims, strict legal action against hate speech and hate crimes, amendment to the anti-cattle slaughter law, repeal of the anti-conversion law, implementation of the caste census report, allocation of Rs 10,000 crore for minority welfare, protection of Waqf properties, political representation for Muslims in proportion to their population, support for the educational advancement of Muslims, and a clear political strategy to resist the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.<\/p>\n

Maroor said, “The Muslim community extended overwhelming support to the Congress because it believed in the promise of a secular and inclusive government. That trust must now be honoured through concrete action.”<\/p>\n

Convention Booklet Sparked Statewide Political Debate<\/h3>\n

KRMO recalled that the Karnataka Muslim Convention was held on May 16, 2026, at Town Hall in Bengaluru, bringing together representatives of Muslim organisations, associations, mosque jamaats, ulema, lawyers, journalists, social activists, youth and women from across Karnataka.<\/p>\n

During the convention, KRMO released a research-based booklet in Kannada, English and Urdu reviewing the Congress government’s three-year performance and documenting the ten pending promises. According to the organisation, the publication generated widespread discussion across political and public circles in Karnataka.<\/p>\n

Within a week of the convention and the booklet’s release, the government withdrew the hijab restriction, one of the key promises listed in the document. KRMO subsequently submitted copies of the booklet to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, ministers and legislators, requesting them to ensure that the remaining commitments are implemented.<\/p>\n

Convenor Haris Siddiqui said, “The booklet released by KRMO is based on facts, research and official information. It presents a clear picture of the promises made and the progress achieved so far.”<\/p>\n

He added, “The withdrawal of the hijab restriction after our convention showed that constructive public engagement can bring results. We now expect similar action on the remaining commitments.”<\/p>\n

KRMO Gives New Government Time, Seeks Immediate Action<\/h3>\n

The organisation said it had intentionally allowed time for the new government to settle after the recent change in leadership. It noted that a month has passed since the new administration assumed office and that the Congress has also appointed a new state president.<\/p>\n

Convenor Yahya Damudi said, “Following the change in leadership, KRMO deliberately gave the new government enough time to settle down. That period is now over, and there should be no further delay in fulfilling the pending promises.”<\/p>\n

He added, “Our statewide campaign aims to reach every district and every elected representative. We want the voices and aspirations of the community to be heard at every level.”<\/p>\n

Statewide Outreach to Mobilise Public and Political Support<\/h3>\n

As part of the campaign, which will continue until August 5, KRMO representatives will organise programmes across Karnataka with the support of community organisations, mosque jamaats and ulema.<\/p>\n

The campaign will include submitting the booklet of demands to MLAs and senior political leaders, urging ulema and religious organisations to submit representations to the government, organising press conferences in major district headquarters, distributing pamphlets and collecting signatures outside mosques after Friday prayers, encouraging intellectuals to write to the government, and meeting Christian religious leaders, community organisations and farmers’ groups to seek their support.<\/p>\n

Convenor Zahoor Qazi said, “We are reaching out to elected representatives, religious leaders, intellectuals and civil society because fulfilling these commitments is a matter of justice, accountability and good governance.”<\/p>\n

He added, “The Muslim community stood firmly behind the Congress because it believed the party would uphold constitutional values and protect the rights of every citizen. It is now time for the government to live up to that trust.”<\/p>\n

Davanagere Convention Planned After Campaign<\/h3>\n

KRMO announced that after the statewide campaign, another Karnataka Muslim Convention will be organised in Davanagere, where the booklet will once again be presented to the public. The date of the convention will be announced later. The organisation is also considering holding a similar convention in Mangaluru.<\/p>\n

KRMO Calls for Accountability Through Democratic Means<\/h3>\n

KRMO said the Muslim community played a significant role in bringing the Congress government to power because it believed Karnataka needed a stable secular government. It maintained that the fulfilment of the pending promises is essential not only to uphold public trust but also to strengthen the principles of social justice and fair representation advocated by the Congress party.<\/p>\n

Tanveer Ahmed said, “Our objective is not confrontation but constructive engagement. We believe meaningful dialogue between the government and the community is the best way to resolve long-pending issues.”<\/p>\n

He added, “The community has shown patience and faith in the democratic process. We expect the government to reciprocate that faith by implementing the promises it made before seeking the people’s mandate.”<\/p>\n

KRMO described itself as a democratic and constitutional platform bringing together Muslim organisations, associations, mosque jamaats and ulema from across Karnataka. It said the organisation is neither aligned with nor opposed to any political party and will continue to raise issues affecting the Muslim community through peaceful and democratic means while expanding its organisational network across the state over the coming months.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
